First day in Granada. A new favorite place already?
After another nightmare driving experience leaving Málaga. I went to get the car out of the garage and then drive to the apartment to pick up Jenn and. the luggage. It is only a two minute walk, but a 10 minute drive because of all the one way streets, streets that not streets and strange intersections that will stress anyone out. Maps wanted to take me down a one way the wrong way. I was forced to turn and that of course derailed my one path to the apartment.
I had to make another loop through the narrow, windy roads. This time I was going to use my memory instead of maps. I was approaching the street. I made the turn only to realize it was the wrong street and I had to loop around again. What should have been 15 minutes to get the car and pick up Jenn, took 40 minutes and my stress level was super high. To Jenn’s credit, she never once called to ask where I was or what happened when she got in the car.
We had a two hour drive in the rain to Granada. So when we were arriving into town, we were excited. Still raining, but we just accepted the weather a while ago. Better than below zero and snow.
We had a specific parking garage input to Apple Maps. As we have learned, Maps does not always have the most accurate info. Sometimes it wants to take you the wrong way down a street, or down a pedestrian mall. This time it thought the entrance was the same as the address, which is not always the case here. So we circled the city once again, as we seem to do every time.
Anyway enough of driving misadventures. We found our Airbnb and the woman who greeted us was another gem. Just like Javier from Ronda, she was super nice and really helpful. And the place was beautiful. By far the nicest and homiest we have stayed in on this trip.
One thing that should have caught my attention though was a little gift from the host that was left on the nightstand in the room with the windows over the plaza. As with many of our rental locations, they tend to be in the center of the old town with lots of action. So it was noisy all night with drunk people and then early in the morning with restaurant deliveries.
Some photos of our rental.
After settling in, we adventured out into the town. As with all of our rentals, we were in the heart of the best neighborhood. We walked out our door into a plaza with restaurants everywhere.
Wow. Your rental in Granada really doesn’t sound like look like a gem. I remember paying a fortune there for some historic hotel and thinking it was pretty crappy really. But it’s your driving stories that bring back the real memories. I may have to hide the post or run the risk of it causing PTSD in your dad!
